Part 6: ഭാരതമഹിമ (The Greatness of Bharat / Bhārata)
കര്‍മ്മങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വിളഭൂമിയകിയ
ജന്മദേശമീഭൂമിയറിഞ്ഞാലും
കര്‍മ്മനാശം വരുത്തേണമെങ്കിലും
ചെമ്മേ മറ്റെങ്ങും സാധിയാ നിര്‍ണ്ണയം
ഭക്തന്മാര്‍ക്കും മുമുക്ഷുജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും
സക്തരായ വിഷയിജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും
ഇച്ഛിച്ചീടുന്നതൊക്കെക്കൊടുത്തീടും
വിശ്വമാതാവു ഭൂമി ശിവ ശിവ!
വിശ്വനാഥന്റെ മൂലപ്രകൃതിതാന്‍
പ്രത്യക്ഷേണ വിളങ്ങുന്നു ഭൂമിയായ്
അവനീതല പാലനത്തിന്നല്ലോ
അവതാരങ്ങളും പലതോര്‍ക്കുമ്പോള്‍
അതുകൊണ്ടു വിശേഷിച്ചും ഭൂലോകം
പതിന്നാലിലുമുത്തമമെന്നല്ലോ
വേദവാദികളായ മുനികളും
വേദവും ബഹുമാനിച്ചു ചൊല്ലുന്നു.
ലവണാംബുധി മദ്ധ്യേ വിളങ്ങുന്ന
ജംബുദ്വീപൊരു യോജനലക്ഷവും
സപ്തദ്വീപുകളുണ്ടതിലെത്രയും
ഉത്തമമെന്നു വാഴ്ത്തുന്നു പിന്നെയും.
ഭൂപദ്മത്തിനു കര്‍ണ്ണികയായിട്ടു
ഭൂധരേന്ദ്രനതില്ലല്ലോ നില്‍ക്കുന്നു
ഇതിലൊമ്പതു ഖണ്ടങ്ങളുണ്ടല്ലോ
അതിലുത്തമം ഭാരതഭൂതലം
സമ്മതരായ മാമുനിശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാര്‍
കര്‍മ്മക്ഷേത്രമെന്നല്ലോ പറയുന്നു
കര്‍മ്മബീജമതീന്നു മുളയ്‌ക്കേണ്ടു
ബ്രഹ്മലോകത്തിരിക്കുന്നവര്‍കള്‍ക്കും.
കര്‍മ്മബീജം വരട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞുടന്‍
ജന്മനാശം വരുത്തേണമെങ്കിലും
ഭാരതമായ ഖണ്ടമൊഴിഞ്ഞുള്ള
പാരിലെങ്ങുമെളുതല്ല നിര്‍ണയം
അത്രമുഖ്യമായുള്ളോരു ഭാരതം
ഇപ്രദേശമെന്നെല്ലാരുമോര്‍ക്കണം.
Njanappana – Part 6 English Transliteration
Karmangalkku vilabhoomiyaakiya,
Janama desamee bhoomi yennarinjalum,
Karma nasam varuthenam engilum,
Chemme mattengum sadhiya nirnayam.
Bakthanmarkkum mumukshu janangalkkum,
Saktharaya vishayee janangalkkum,
Ichicheedunnathokke kodutheedum,
Viswa mathavu bhoomi siva! Siva!
Viswanathante moola prakrithi thaan,
Prathyakshena vilangunnu bhoomiyayi,
Avani thala paalanithinnallo ,
Avatharangalum palathorkkumbol,
Athu kondu viseshichum Bhoolokam,
Pathinalilum uthamam ennallo,
Veda vadhikalaya munikalum,
Vedavum bahumamichhu chollunnu.
Lavanambhudhi madhye vilangunna,
Jambhu dweeporu yojana lakshavum,
Saptha dweepukal adhil undethrayum,
Uttamamennu vazhthunnu pinneyum.
Bhoo padmathinnu karnigayayittu,
Bhoo dharendran adil allo nilkunnu,
Ithil ombadhu gandangal undallo,
Athil uttamam bharatha bhoo thalam.
Sammatharaya mamuni shreshtanmaar
Karma kshetramennallo parayunnu.
Karma bheejamatheennu mulaykkendu,
Brahma lokathil irikkunnavargalkkum,
Karma bheejam varatti kalanjudan,
Janma nasam varuthanamengilum,
Bharathamaya gHanda mozhinjhulla,
Paarilengumeluthalla nirnayam.

Njanappana – Part 6 Meaning in English
Know that this is where you sow the seeds of your karmas,
The earth which is your motherland (place of birth),
To exhaust all the residual karmas,
Definitely there is no other place
To the devotees and the people who aspire liberation / moksha,
And to those who are materialistic,
The mother earth fulfills all of their wishes,
Oh Shiva Shiva! (Praises Lord Shiva)
Lord of creation of the Universe,
Who appears and shines as the mother earth (earth itself is the God)
To save and protect this mother earth,
All the incarnations of God descended onto this earth,
Thus the earth is special and blessed,
And greatest among all the 14 worlds,
Says those who have mastered the Vedas,
And all the saints and the Vedas itself.
(Note: According to Atharvaveda (and Puranas), there are 14 worlds – seven higher worlds and seven lower worlds. The seven higher worlds are: Bhuh (earth), Bhavah, Swah, Mahah, Janah, Tapah, and Satyam and the seven lower worlds are: Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Rasatala, Talatala, Mahatala, and Patala.)
In the middle of the salty sea,
Exists an island named “Jambudvip” (Earth),
With an area of 100,000 yojanas (1 yojana = 5 ~ 8 miles),
Among the 7 islands that exist,
This island is the greatest of all.
Comparing this earth to a lotus,
The King of Earth stands at the center,
There are nine regions / continents on this earth,
Among of all that, the perfect and most sacred region is Bharat (India)
Great and acclaimed sages say
This place (Bharat) is the Karmakshetra (sacred field where all karmas should be performed).
The source of all karmas is this land (Bharat),
Even for those great souls in the Brahma Loka.
And it is in this same place all karmas can be destroyed,
If one desires salvation / moksha.
Anywhere else than in Bharat (Bharata Bhumi – The land called Bharat),
All these cannot be easily done (destroying all the past karmas and to attain Moksha)
Sacred and special is Bharat,
Everyone must remember that fact (especially in this Kali Yuga),
Out of all the four Yugas (era), Kali Yuga is the best,
To attain salvation / Moksha from this cycle of birth and death (Samsara).
Njanappana Part 6 Comments
The poet, Bhaktha Kavi Poonthanam, says,
“Karma nasam varuthenam engilum,
Chemme mattengum sadhiya nirnayam.”
The poet described earlier that the only place we can accumulate Karma is on this earth and the results of that will be experienced in appropriate worlds, like heavenly worlds or the hell. However, now he says that the only place we can experience and exhaust our Karma is on this earth, our Mother Land.
