Ten Commandments and More Life Changing Quotes from Osho

In one of the earlier posts, I shared some of my favorite quotes from Osho.

Osho always had immense respect for individuality and uniqueness and believed that meditation does not necessarily have to be all about sitting quietly under a tree or a on hill chanting Om…, but, in his own words, “…there is a special door [to the temple of godliness] only for you and nobody else. That is existences’ love for you, it’s respect for you…but the basic fundamental is, whatsoever meditation technique, it has to fulfill this requirement – that the body, mind, consciousness, all three should function in unity.”

Here is another set of more interesting things from Osho, one of the most popular spiritual masters from India who advocated for a more open society and openly criticized all organized religions.

TEN COMMANDMENTS

Osho was once asked for his 10 Commandments. While he noted that he was against any commandments, he listed the following “just for fun”;

1. Never obey anyone’s command unless it is coming from within you.
2. There is no God other than Life itself.
3. Truth is within you, do not search for it elsewhere.
4. Love is prayer.
5. To become a nothingness is the door to truth. Nothingness itself is the means, the goal and attainment.
6. Life is now and Here.
7. Live wakefully.
8. Do not swim – but float.
9. Die each moment so that you can be new each moment.
10. Do not search. That which is, Is. Stop and See.

ON DANCE AND MEDITATION

“Hence my insistence on dancing and music, because it is only in dance that you will feel that your body, your mind and you are functioning together. And the joy is infinite when all these function together, the richness is great… and when all these three energies function together, the fourth arrives…the fourth is nothing but that organic unity.”

“Mind is the accumulated past of all incomplete actions.”

“Meditation is about getting our body, mind and soul to function in a rhythmic fashion which brings in the fourth dimension to our life – Turiya (the fourth / the nameless / the nothingness). Turiya is what we are. It is the Pure consciousness. Absolute calmness, peace, happiness and joy. Shantam, Shivam, Sundaram.”

ON LIFE

“Find ecstasy within yourself. It is not out there. It is in your innermost flowering. The one you are looking for is You. You are the traveler and you are the destination. In experiencing the ecstasy of your own being, you have achieved the final goal.”

“…to renounce knowledge is the most difficult thing in the world”

“Unless awareness becomes compassion, something remains incomplete, something remains imperfect.”

ON LOVE

“Love is the nourishment for the soul. Just as food is to the body, so love is to the soul. Without food the body is weak, without love the soul is weak. And no state, no church, no vested interest, has ever wanted people to have strong souls, because a person with spiritual energy is bound to be rebellious.”
